Greetings to the Class of ‘69. I’ve enjoyed taking the time to read the updated information and pictures that you’ve all entered. I’ll try to put 40+ years into a paragraph….
Jim Cherveny (my high school sweetheart) and I got married in June 1972. I graduated from ISU in 1973 with a BS in Elementary Ed. I taught for 2 years at Kimes School in Streator, while Jim was teaching at Woodland School. Then we started our family. In 1975, we had our first daughter, Jennifer - and Jim moved to Streator High School. Our family continued to grow…Luke (1978), Jimmy (1983) and Susan (1984). I was a stay-at-home mom, ( volunteer, chauffeur and room mother) until Susan started school. I taught Remedial Reading at St Stephens School for 2 years, then went back to the halls of good ole Streator High School. Get this, Jim became my boss at SHS! He was the Tech Prep Work Program Coordinator. I taught a section of the Work Program for Special Needs students, I also tutored students during the school day. Jim retired but still worked part time. And now, in 2010 We have both decided to fully retire from teaching.
Over the years we have thoroughly enjoyed raising our 4 kids and now enjoy 5 grandchildren. Jennifer (EIU grad. BS Ed) is married to David, living, teaching and coaching in Palatine, IL with 3 children - Rhiann (9) DJ (7) and Darrin (3).
Luke (EIU grad BS Business/Acct, CPA) is married to Ellen, living in Grand Rapids and working with PriceWaterhouseCoopers in Grand Rapids, MI with 2 children - Vivian (3)and Adam (1).
Jim (EIU grad BS Phys ED/Dr Ed/Health), living in Morris and teaching/coaching in Plainfield, IL - married to Alyssa.
Susan (UIC grad BA Elementary Ed), teaching/coaching In Ottawa, finishing up a Masters program in Guidance Counseling.
We thought that as the kids grew up and moved out, we’d become empty nesters, and have so much time to travel and vacation - These kids keep us busy, we travel to Palatine, GR, and Plainfield to watch the games they coach, babysit, and just to visit those little cuties! We are constantly on the G-O! (and love every minute of it!) Now that we are retired, I don't know when we had time to w-o-r-k!
I am anxious to keep current with all of you Classmates of ‘69. I think this website is great, THANKS to Les, for making it all happen.
